ABOUT US
PHILOSOPHY:
At the Houston Hazard Volleyball Club (HHVC), we understand kids and
parents have a life outside of volleyball, and that is the way we feel it should be!
Therefore, we play in mostly local tournaments, have nearby practice facilities and a low
cost. Keeping this philosophy in mind, we have come up with the guidelines that
religious, family, and academic obligations come first; however, we strongly encourage
players who miss a practice to make it up with another one of our teams, and players
must attend a minimum of half their practices to participate in the next tournament.
Practices are well-structured and designed to make learning volleyball as fun as
possible while working hard to achieve goals.
HISTORY:
The HHVC was started in 2003 to give 8th graders in the Spring Branch area the
opportunity to play volleyball through out the school year, providing them a better chance
to make their high school teams. Before we knew it, in addition to this 14 year old team,
we had 13 and 15 year old teams as well. We accepted whoever wanted to play, and
with a brand new club, brand new players, and few practices, the teams did a great job.
Now in our fifth year, with the club more than doubling in size and popularity, we know
the teams players will perform at an even higher level.
PLAYER AND COACH REQUIREMENTS:
Players are expected to be respectful, coachable, and hard working at all times. Players
and coaches are highly recommended to attend a score keeping and/or officiating class
which we will arrange and are included in your cost. At tournaments, players and
coaches will have refereeing and score keeping duties at tournaments.

PRACTICES AND TRY OUTS:
Try-outs and practices are held at the Houston Jrs. facility (the old Baseball U.S.A. on
Beltway 8 just north of Westview). Please see the "Tournament Schedule" and "Practice
Schedule" links to find out more about our tournament and practice schedules.
SUMMARY OF SEASON:
After the completion of try-outs in August, practices will begin in mid November. In
late November/ early December, players will be placed onto teams. Tournaments
will begin in December or January and occur approximately every two to three
weeks through the end of April/early May. Most teams play in local tournaments. The
Black team from each age group will participate in the Lone Star Regionals during
May and possibly one or two other out of town tournaments.
